The new VP expensed a hot tub and called it team wellness
Finance found the line item on a Friday. Nobody has recovered.
The New VP arrives with a mandate to improve morale, and by the second week there is a hot tub. Not at the office. At his house. The line item reads team wellness infrastructure and it clears three approvals before Finance opens the receipt and goes very quiet. Nobody asks him about it directly. Instead the whole floor develops a habit of saying wellness in a specific tone, the way you would say alleged. He announces a wellness challenge at the next team meeting. Someone asks whether the challenge includes access to the equipment. He laughs. It is not a joke, and he knows it is not a joke, and he laughs anyway. The hot tub stays. The morale does not.
